MEVIDO Companion Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 24, 2026
MEVIDO Companion is designed to connect media playback in your browser with the locally installed MEVIDO Desktop application on Windows. We believe privacy policies should be transparent, concise, and technically honest. This page explains what the extension processes locally, what permissions it uses, and what we do not collect.
Overview
MEVIDO Companion is a browser extension developed by MERLEKA for Chromium-based browsers (such as Google Chrome). Its sole purpose is to detect supported web video and music streams on the active tab and hand eligible stream or page information to the locally installed MEVIDO Desktop application for Windows.
The extension operates entirely client-side. MERLEKA does not operate user accounts, cloud tracking servers, or analytics databases for MEVIDO Companion. Your media browsing and downloading activity remains on your own computer.
Information MEVIDO Companion Processes
To perform its core handoff functionality, MEVIDO Companion inspects media on the active tab locally. Depending on how you interact with the extension and which features are enabled, it processes the following information in local memory:
- Active Page URL and Title: When you click the extension action, hover over a supported media player, or click the in-page MEVIDO button, the extension reads the active webpage URL and title to identify the content and pass it to MEVIDO Desktop.
- HTML5 Media Elements: The extension inspects <video> and <audio> elements within the active document to detect direct source URLs and display an optional in-page download control.
- Technical Media Metadata: In response to media inspection or detection, the extension parses technical stream metadata, such as MIME types, playlist manifests (e.g., HLS master playlists), bitrate variants, and video resolutions.
- Local Preferences: User choices, such as interface language, overlay display preferences, and feature toggles, are stored locally using Chrome's extension storage API.
Advanced Media Detection
Modern video streaming platforms frequently deliver media through segmented streams (such as HLS or DASH) rather than static media tags. To detect these streams, MEVIDO Companion includes an optional feature called Advanced Media Detection.
Advanced Media Detection is disabled by default. It is never enabled automatically at installation.
When you explicitly turn on Advanced Media Detection in the extension popup or settings, Chrome prompts you to grant optional host permissions (*://*/*). Once granted, the extension can observe network request headers and URLs for multimedia chunks (.m3u8, .mpd, video/audio segments) solely to identify eligible streams on the pages you visit.
You can disable Advanced Media Detection at any time directly from the extension interface. When disabled, the extension removes the broad host permission, returning your browser to the standard permission state.
The extension's built-in safety filters automatically exclude sensitive, authenticated, or session-bound media URLs from being exported or passed to the desktop application.
Local Processing and Storage
All candidate media inspection, stream parsing, and filtering take place locally within your browser's execution environment on your device.
MEVIDO Companion does not transmit your inspected URLs, media candidate lists, page titles, or media manifests to MERLEKA or any remote server. The only external handoff occurs locally on your machine when you choose to open a stream in MEVIDO Desktop.
Local extension preferences (such as language selection and feature toggles) are stored locally using chrome.storage.local. They are not synchronized across devices unless you have enabled browser-level account synchronization in Chrome.
Information We Do Not Collect
MERLEKA is committed to zero unnecessary data collection. MEVIDO Companion does NOT collect, inspect, store, or transmit to MERLEKA servers:
- Passwords, PINs, or authentication credentials
- Browser cookies or session tokens
- HTTP authentication headers or authorization secrets
- Browsing history or visited URLs for marketing or analytics
- Personal communications, emails, or form inputs
- Payment details, credit card numbers, or billing data
- Precise geolocation data
Data Sharing
MERLEKA does not sell, rent, monetize, or trade any user information or browsing activity.
Because MEVIDO Companion processes data locally on your computer and does not transmit browsing information to remote servers, there is no personal browsing data to provide to advertisers, data brokers, or third-party marketers.
Analytics and Advertising
MEVIDO Companion contains zero third-party advertising networks, zero advertising trackers, and zero behavioral analytics SDKs.
We do not track which websites you visit, how often you use the extension, or what media files you choose to inspect or download. There are no advertising identifiers or persistent tracking profiles associated with your installation.
Permissions
In accordance with the Chrome Web Store Minimum Permissions policy, MEVIDO Companion requests only the permissions strictly required to provide its features:
- activeTab (Required): Allows the extension to interact with the currently active browser tab when you click the extension toolbar button or interact with an in-page media control. It does not provide ongoing access to background tabs.
- storage (Required): Allows the extension to save your preferences locally on your computer (such as UI language, detection options, and overlay visibility).
- webRequest (Required for detection): Allows the extension local background script to inspect network request metadata (such as MIME types and playlist URLs) in order to detect eligible media streams.
- *://*/* (Optional Host Permission — Opt-in Only): This permission is NOT granted upon installation. It is requested only if you explicitly choose to turn on Advanced Media Detection in the extension. It allows webRequest to observe media stream candidate requests across web origins. This permission can be revoked at any time by disabling the feature in the extension settings.
MEVIDO Desktop Communication
MEVIDO Companion communicates with the MEVIDO Desktop application on Windows using the operating system's registered custom URI protocol (mevido://).
When you click a download or open action in the extension, it constructs a standard command containing the target public page URL or eligible media stream URL and triggers mevido://. Windows routes this command directly to the locally installed MEVIDO application.
No internet connections or cloud relays are involved in this handoff. It is an entirely local inter-process communication mechanism between your browser and your installed Windows desktop application.
DRM and Protected Content
MEVIDO Companion respects digital rights management (DRM) technologies.
The extension does not circumvent, decrypt, or bypass technological protection measures, encrypted media extensions (EME), Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, or other copy-protection systems. It does not acquire decryption keys or assist in unauthorized circumvention.
Data Retention
Because MERLEKA does not collect or transmit your media browsing activity to any servers, we retain no browsing data, media lists, or IP logs associated with your use of MEVIDO Companion.
Any temporary stream candidates held in local browser memory are automatically cleared when you close the tab, close the browser, or reload the page. Local settings stored via chrome.storage.local remain until you clear the extension data or uninstall the extension.
Children's Privacy
MEVIDO Companion is a general utility tool for media streaming and downloading. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in MEVIDO Companion features, browser platform requirements, or applicable regulations. When changes are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.
The current version published on this website is always the active and applicable version.
